How can I ensure that my Conforums account is secured?
First off use a secondary email and do not make it public. Hide your email in profile settings. If you do not want to make a secondary email you may still use your existing email account. But make sure you have a unpredictable password. This is a vital step. Over 90% of all cracked accounts are from the password reminder feature and then getting access to your email.
Well, how can we avoid this?
Seems pretty obvious, but still tons of boards/accounts are hacked. First off, ask yourself is your email that is registered on the account safe? By that, is your password a good one? Hard to guess? A combination of letters and numbers? If you want to you may write this password down in a safe spot. Also, make sure your security question is not obvious. For instance, what is your favorite football team and your forum being on the Greenbay packers. Even an uneducated person can fill in greenbay and get access to your email. Which defeats the whole purpose of having a good password.
Next is the Conforums account. First make sure you have your password reminder disabled. Login> Profile> Preferences > Disable password feature. (Don't forget to type your password to accept the changes)
Now, that your email is secured and your password reminder is disabled your much more protected from hackers. Now, ask yourself is your Conforums account password a combination of letters and numbers? If so, you may pat yourself on the back.
Some other basic tips to help you have your board and your Conforums account secured.
1) Don't leave your password cookied on your computer. Always logout.
2) Never open any suspicious links in a PM. (You may be tricked in typing your password)
3) If you seek assistance with your Conforums account and need to give out your password, please look for Conforums Staff for assistance.
