xx Thread views defaulting to 0 after hitting 3,000
« Thread started on: Jun 27th, 2007, 6:34pm »

Our views are disappearing. Today we had a hot thread that climed to 3,000 views and then went to zero. The thread since then has climbed to 1,042 but I know it's going to happen again because it happened on another thread a couple of weeks ago.

Talking with admin, he's not familiar with a prompt that he has access to, which would cause the views to default to zero.

The thread in question is below.

Suggestions here.

Thanks, UFO Casebook Global Moderator

The thread is now at 2591 views since my last post and I know it's gonna go back to zero again when it hits 3,000. Can you help me out here.

Apologize for the delay in response.

Not sure directly caused the problem though some cases if there is so much activity in a thread or board, the counter tends to bug out.

I went ahead and did a recount, and I believe all the views have been accounted for.

Yes, I saw the change and it did go back to where it should be but once again last night it defaulted back to zero and today sits at 2,928 when it should be nearing 30,000.

This view thing is important to us for reasons I will not explain except to say that it is important.

Could you please do what you did previously and let's see if it returns to it's proper state.

The post count did not default this time however, just the views. Webmaster has attempted a "fix board" of course but no change.

Thank you

You could try fixing the board by clicking "Fix Boards" in the admin panel smiley

That's the first thing we did. "Fix Board" does not fix it.

We've lost about 40,000 views on this thread. There must be something else we can do you Conforums can do isn't there?

Fix a board won't fix this as it has no "reference" to work from regarding the amount of views to a thread. The only thing that causes this to happen is when two users have the same thread file open at the exact same time another words down to the millisecond.

As that thread is a large one, it is quite feasible that this is happening and I'm afraid there is nothing whatsoever that was can do about it.

Sorry... undecided

Dave, this question is rather important - I'll live with the loss of views.

This thread is now 100 pages long in the very short time of 6 or 7 days.

Would you find it wise to lock it and start a new thread. I've heard of people losing whole threads but then again, I've also witnessed admin and mods deleting threads that they said just disappeared.

What is your advice here. Have you ever had a suspicion that this can happen and whole threads can disappear due to their size.

We cannot afford to lose this one however we hate to move to another thread due to links on this thread from multiple website articles not only in our sight but other websites besides ours.

There is a possibility that the thread could corrupt when it gets to this stage. Again, it's down to users accessing the file simultanously and the server can't write the data back fast enough.

If you wanted to be 100% safe, then I would say yes, start a new thread.

If you do continue, and the thread does corrupt, please DON'T use the fixaboard, come yell for me.

Thanks again for your help.

I would really like to get down to this problem we're having with the view count. It's continuing to happen now all over the forum.

These first two addresses should have a view total of around 80,000 plus a piece by now.

http://ufocasebook.conforums.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&num=1182908022&start=0

http://ufocasebook.conforums.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&num=1183592541&start=0

The views in this address just fell to zero again this afternoon after hitting 6,000 views but it had defaulted back to zero twice previously and should actually be at about 20,000.

http://ufocasebook.conforums.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&num=1184625216&start=0

This thread has defaulted back to zero more times then I can count and it's not a thread that anyone is allowed to post in but is only there to read.

http://ufocasebook.conforums.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=reports&num=1148913265&start=0

Not to sound like a pest, but I don't think an answer that sounds like "I don't know" will work for me anymore. This is happening to too many threads so there has to be an answer from someone since it has to have happened to another forum in the past.

Please ask again and see if we can keep this from happening somehow and if so, how.

Easier explanation. Look at this address. The first thread entry at the top, how can we have 682 replys and only 649 views.

http://ufocasebook.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=general

New problem

1. This one sort of urks me. Most users online was 308 on Jun 26th, 2007, 4:00pm. This figure still sits there today almost a month later, just like it is. After that June 26th date, we had many, many more visitors come in each day due to the particular information we had posted at about 8:00pm on that day June 26th. That high volume traffic went on for almost two weeks.

What good are the statistics if they are incorrect or keep disappearing on us.

This has recently been occurring on my forums, with the sudden surge of activity. I was wondering if there was a way to fix this.

It has happened on all my boards, that have threads, so I was wondering if this can be fixed:

Well, our activity died down weeks ago but the threads are still defaulting.

Honestly, my last post above yours was posted a month and 3 days ago and they still haven't answered my questions so good luck.

I replied the best I am able to. I can't do anything about it at present although I'm going to try adding something in the next week or so that may stop it from happening. It's just finding the time to do it undecided
